SlipAngle /// Episode 301 - Building an LS7 Powered E46 M3 - Pete Collins

Abrin Schmucker

Episode 301 - While on rain delay at Barber Motorsports Park Abe and Alex Moss spend some time in the clubhouse talking to Pete Collins. Pete's the owner and idea guy behind "MS7". This 600whp E46 M3 was built by ASM and is equipped with an LS7, Samsonas sequential gearbox, and some of the biggest aero you'll find on a time attack car. It also has air jacks. Why wouldn’t it have air jacks? Pete's a regular at Barber, and has made some friend along the way. A local buddy joins the show to tell a story or 2 about Pete, and what track life is like down south.

This car is fast. In some early testing, builder Andy Smedegard put down a 1:32.6 at Gingerman Raceway, 2:06.2 at NCM, and 1:30.5 at Barber. We’re expecting to see Pete and this car compete in the #GRIDLIFE TrackBattle Series in the Track Modified class for 2020, bringing some new heat to an already stacked field. See the car in person at an upcoming event, or check out a couple of in-car videos after the break. Make sure to turn up your speakers, because the noise coming from the single side-exit exhaust is really something special.

This episode was supported by Apex Pro. Look for some hands on demos of the full data system for use at GRIDLIFE round 1 at NCM. Units should also be available for purchase in the tracktuned store soon.

Images were provided by longtime GRIDLIFE photographer Chris Sullivan (CRSFoto). Nate Kuhn also snagged a shot of the car up in the air while in the paddock. Too cool not to post up.
